Savage Weekend
Review by Jeff
Directed by: David Paulsen
Starring:
Jim Doerr/Robert
David Gale/Mac
Marilyn Hamlin/Marie
Devin Goldenberg/Jay
Plot:
Several couples head to upstate New York to watch a boat being constructed. They are soon stalked by a murderer behind a ghoulish mask. This amazing film combines a mixture of sex and shocking violence. Filmed in 1976 but not released until 1981, this is one of the first slasher movies ever produced and is just as shocking today as when it was first screened.
Acting:
The acting in this film is real bad for the most part, Marilyn Hamlin(Marie) plays a messed up woman that has mega issues, and seems she likes to sleep around a lot, David Gale plays a good redneck asshole type of guy, but seems to turn out to ok at the end of the film, the rest are just kind of throw aways that get killed off.
Gore:
Not much here, there’s not even a lot of killing in this film, we get a guy strangled, a needle through the head, a guy thrown out a window, and a chainsaw to the back, pretty dull stuff.
T & A:
There is like 4 pairs of boobs here, seems like the girls in this film like to get naked a lot.
Directing:
David did a ok job here it was shot in 1978 so it was one of the first slasher films, so I give him credit there, but the movie just looks plain, and a lot of the kills cut away so the camera work kind of sucks.
Soundtrack:
We get a banjo ditty at the start of the film, the rest of the movie has a 70’s score to it.
Final thoughts:
This is one of the very early slasher films that’s not well know, and I can see why, the acting is pretty bad, and the kill scenes are pretty lame, and at the end its supposed to be a surprise who the killer is, but unless you are stupid as fuck you will see it coming. I would stay away from this flick unless you want to try and see every slasher film made. I give it 4/10.
