Se7en (1995)
Review by Bindi Lavelle

Dark and unsettling crime thriller helmed by David Fincher. Se7en show just how deadly the seven deadly sins can be.

Days before retiring, Detective Sommerset (Morgan Freeman) uncovers a series of murders, each has its own theme, being one if the seven deadly sins (Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Envy, Wraith, Pride, Lust.). Sommerset tries desperately to find the killer, all the while training hot head Detective Mills (Brad Pitt) to replace him.

This is undeniably a Fincher film, strongly stylistic; the nondescript city is seen in gritty hues of green and yellow, with regular rain sullying everything rather than wash filth away.

The dark and dirty look of the film is perfect for this plot which unravels at a steady pace, with the jarring and elaborate crime scenes providing dramatic high points.

Savage and compelling, Se7en is everything you could want in a thriller.
