Silent Hill (2006)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Christophe Gans
Starring:
Radha Mitchell/Rose
Sean Bean/Christopher
Laurie Holden/Cybil
Jodelle Ferland/Sharon
Plot:
Determined to save her terminally ill daughter (Jodelle Ferland) from death, Rose ignores the wishes of her husband and takes her to a faith healer. But her well-intentioned efforts somehow land them in an alternate reality. Now, Rose is in the deserted town of Silent Hill, where her daughter mysteriously disappears and she's left to search for her child in a world of darkness and shadow.
Acting:
The acting in this film was ok, Radha Mitchell(Rose) was a good strong lead, I had never really seen her in much before but she really impressed me with her abilities. Laurie Holden(Cybil) was a a badass and looked the part. I was kind of disappointed how her character goes out in the film but she was good to watch. Jodelle Ferland(Sharon) was a creepy little kid...yea enough said there.
Gore:
The gore is kind of far between but where we get it its delivered in nice amounts. We get some gunshots, ripped off flesh(Favorite part of movie), a brutal beating, slicing and dicing, a lady burned alive, and a scene with barbed wire that is amazing.
T & A:
None of that stuff here and being based on a video game it doesn’t need it.
Directing:
Christophe did a great job with making this feel like the game, we get some killer overhead shots that feel like a video game. The costume design was great, and the monsters were kick ass, it fit the world of Silent Hill just perfect. I wanted more where this was over.
Soundtrack:
The score and soundtrack was perfect from the opening theme music from the game to the eerie industrial sound effects that are creepy as hell. We also get a beautiful elegant score that’s makes you uncomfortable at times.
Final thoughts:
I was a huge fan of the video game Silent Hill so going into this movie I was going to be critical about what was put to screen. With that being said I wasn’t let down, Christophe did a pretty great job making this feel like it should. We got great camera work, killer monsters, the gore and twisted imagery was spot on, and the score was lifted rite from the game. I would say if you’re a fan of the game or just a fan of horror movies this is a must watch. I give it a 8/10.
