Spiderhole (2010)

Review by David Rupp

They say squatting is dead - a term that takes on a sinister double meaning when four homeless art students decide to take up residence in an abandoned London House where a hidden terror lurks.
Directed and written by Daniel Simpson
Starring: Amy Noble, Emma Griffiths Malin and George Maguire
Ahhhh....UK, that great island across the Atlantic, is it me or are they pumping out some great original stuff these days? Can England be the new Hollywood? You may be surprised.
Squatters, you don't hear much about them these days, maybe because they have picked the wrong houses. Part Saw, part hostel, mostly better Spiderhole follows the demise of 4 artists who try to apply their squatting rights to a psychos playground.
The acting was great, you felt, loved, hated the characters. Following them with an air of regret because you just knew something was going to hit the proverbial fan. Setting wise, the location fit the piece entirely, uncomfortable and confusing at times. The kills were somewhat cliche, especially after the Saw franchise has used everything from guns to dirty diapers (no, but they just might). The one missing puzzle piece was the killer, hard to place, not what you'd expect and somewhat tired.
All in all this was an exellent effort from Spiderhole Productions, I thought the pay-off worked and the film in a whole was entertaining and I reccomend seeing it.
8/10
