Stash
Review by David Rupp
It was late, cold and wet. I had just gotten off work but I made it to the screening of Stash at the Kentucky Theater, and I am god damned glad I did. Along with running into some cool people I haven't seen in a while, I got to see if not the best independent release in 2007, one of the top 3. I was blown away with the vision, writing and the way everything was captured. A total package that had me interested and entertained from the beginning.
Written and directed by Jacob Ennis, and put out by TuckyWood Productions and CanToo Ent. Starring Kevin Taylor, Nathan Day, Stacey T. Gillespie, Karen Boles, Billy W. Blackwell, Chris Begley, Debbie Rachon and a cameo from The Creepy Kentuckian and Uncle Bill of deadpit.com.
This is a nice piece of original work with some basic elements of the genre thrown in but blended in such a way you don't think it a rip off of anything else. VERY REFRESHING! Shot well with a not too polished and shiny look we get from digital shoots now a days, just enough grit and grain to keep it with not quite a grindhouse feel but more like the late 70's cult releases. Angles and lighting worked out great, as well as the cast hitting things right of the money. The scripting and dialog also deserve a round of beers.
Stash is a movie to see, if you haven't heard of it you have now, go buy it. The basic story breakdown is: Two guys break into their dealers place to rip him off, they get caught, a deal is made to pay back Bud, the dealer but he has a darkside. I don't want to give away too much, but we have missing girls, drugs and deformities. Enjoy it we did.
