Suck (2010)

Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

Outline: The Winners is a rock band trying to make it when the lead singer(Rob Stefaniuk) finds himself dodged by a mysterious bartender (Alice Cooper) and the bass guitarist (Jessica Pare) finds herself befriended (and eventually turned)by a mysterious stranger (Dmitri Coates). When the vampire angle turns out to be just what the band needed to catapult to stardom, they find themselves in the cross-hairs of an underground vampire hunter (Malcolm McDowell)
Not a serious film in any sense, this is mostly a genre flick, for the fans. And the fans are pleased! Just enough camp, just enough blood, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as much as the first time I watched "Love at First BIte" when I was a kid. The fact that it was set mostly in Canada just adds to my amusement, as well as a bordercrossing scene that pretty much had me in stitches. It also boasts cameos from Moby, Carol Pope, and Henry Rollins, who plays a smartass DJ. If you like Rock and Roll, you will enjoy this film. If you like vampires, you will enjoy this film. If you like the understated, quietly-behind-your-hand-chuckling humour, you will enjoy this film. 9/10.
