Suicide Club (2002)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Sion Sono

Starring:
Ryo Ishibashi/Kuroda
Yoko Kamon/The Bat
Rolly/Genesis

Plot:
A wave of unexplainable suicides sweeps across Tokyo after 54 smiling high school girls join hands and throw themselves from a subway platform into an oncoming train. Are the jumpers part of a cult? What is the connection to the website that chronicles suicides before they happen? And, what is the connection to the Japanese all-girl pop group "Desert?" Suicide Club is a stylish, bizarre thriller that examines pop culture and disaffected youth.

Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty well done Ryo Ishibashi(Kuroda) was real good I have seen him in other movies playing the same type of role and he is good at playing a cop, Rolly(Genesis) was pretty crazy and out there but I was hoping to see more of his character in the movie. Overall everyone did a good job.

Gore:
The blood sprays here as we get kids run over by a train, kids jumping off a building, and even more suicides, we also get some cut off fingers, stabbing, and pealed off skin.

T & A:
We get 1 brief boob shot here.

Directing:
Sion did a nice job making this film feel real gritty and realistic, the look of the movie looks like it was on video but I am sure it wasn’t.

Soundtrack:
There is all kinds of music here but mostly pop music from a group called Desert, pretty funny stuff if you ask me. We also get a mixed score from hokey music during death scenes to a real serious score in other parts of the film.

Final thoughts:
Suicide Club was a very bizarre movie, I can say I have not seen a movie like this before. The acting was well done, the gore was great like always in most Japanese films, and I would say the plot is very interesting. I would say give this movie a try rent it first and see what you think. I give it a 6/10.
