Super Hybrid (2011)

Review by David Rupp

Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident. The on-call mechanics soon discover the car has a mind of its own. With hundreds of horsepower and two tons of reinforced steel at its command, it's a seemingly unstoppable killing machine capable of outrunning and outwitting humans.
Directed by Eric Valette
Written by Benjamin Carr
Starring: Shannon Beckner, Oded Fehr and Ryan Kennedy
Straight off the presses from Anchor Bay we have the BluRay Super Hybrid. The best way to describe this movie is take Christine, mix it with The Car and liberally sprinkle in some Lovecraftian lore, bake yourself at 420 for 90 minitues and ta-da. But seriously for what seems like a syfy run, it isn't too shabby.
The story is somewhat original, and it is suspenseful if not somewhat predictable. Pair that with a few strong characters, half of those being believable and a small special features presentation for a Bluray (seriously it's just a behind the scenes) called Under the Hood, and it just doesn't thrill me.
I was entertained, but just so. It was an okay film but not something I'd want to revisit multiple times with friends. Rent don't buy or wait until it comes to Netflix streaming or an on demand service. Super Hybrid is not bad but not great either by any means.
