The Cook (2008)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Gregg Simon
Starring:
Mark Hengst/ The Cook
Makinna Ridgway/Amy
Kit Paquin/Bunny
Brooke Lenzi/Kristen
Plot:
Over a long holiday weekend, unable to escape the confines of their sorority house, a handful of unsuspecting girls are left behind to enjoy the quiet sanctuary. The normal house staff has taken off for the weekend, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Thankfully someone was kind enough to send them a temporary replacement chef to cook their meals. However, when the girls start disappearing one-by-one, they begin to suspect something may not be quite right.
Acting:
The acting in this film was average at best. The stand out of the movie was Mark Hengst(The Cook). This guy had some good expressions and was pretty funny in the lead role. Makinna Ridgway(Amy) was very likeable as the lead girl, but I felt they didn’t spend as much time with her and wasted it on the other girls.
Gore:
We get some pretty good stuff here that includes a slit throat, body’s made into some nasty looking food, a cork screw to the neck, a cut off hand, a cleaver to the head, and some other goodies!. This one is jammed with stuff.
T & A:
We get 3 pairs of boob shots here, nothing too impressive though.
Directing:
Gregg did a pretty good job making this a fun silly flick. It was well shot and took place in one house so stuff was kept pretty simple. The only thing I thought was pretty bad was the script and all the lesbian stuff that was just too overbearing.
Soundtrack:
The score was good and simple. We get a lot of standard rock music that fit the movie pretty well.
Final thoughts:
The Cook was a pretty fun slasher that had some good things to it. It really felt like a throwback to some of the 80’s slasher films but lacked in a horrible script. There was way too much lesbian stuff that didn’t fit, and even though there was some good kills it felt like they all came at once and needed to be spread out more. I would say give this one a rent it is worth a watch. I give it a 6/10.
