The Evil Dead (1981)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Sam Raimi

Starring:
Bruce Campbell/Ash
Richard DeManincor/Scott
Ellen Sandweiss/Cheryl
Betsy Baker/Linda

Plot:
Ash and four friends arrive at a backwoods cabin for a vacation, where they find a tape recorder containing incantations from an ancient book of the dead. When they play the tape, evil forces are unleashed, and one by one the friends are possessed. Wouldn't you know it, the only way to kill a "deadite" is by total bodily dismemberment, and soon the blood starts to fly.

Acting:
The acting in this movie was really good for some young guys and gals, Bruce Campbell(Ash) was real good in the lead role he was very likeable and gave a strong performance to be the leader and help the others out. Richard DeManincor(Scott) was pretty funny and was the joker of the gang but at other times he was a great asshole and coward. The ladies were good but honestly I felt anyone could fill there shoes.

Gore:
The gore was awesome and was ahead of it’s time, we get a pencil to the ankle(this was nasty) some scratching, burning flesh, a hand being bit off, stabbing, some brutal axe action, a head cut off, some gunshots, eyes gouged out, and some biting.

T & A:
We get 1 and a half breasts here.

Directing:
Sam did a great job with the camera shots, some unique and innovative stuff that I had never seen before you would think they would have cost a lot to do the things they did but they did a lot of the camera shots and effects for little to nothing.

Soundtrack:
The score was pretty intense and scary and added a lot to the feel of this film.

Final thoughts:
The Evil Dead is one of the all time greats when it comes to horror films, the blood and special effects were gruesome and the shots they did were awesome, and we interfused to a lead character Ash at his beginning and later on would come to be a lot more comical. To me this is the ultimate demonic possession movie and I would say that anyone that is a horror movie fan would love this and is a must see, so if you are reading this and haven’t seen it WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU go watch it. I give this film a 10/10.
