The Living And The Dead (2006)
Review by Jeff

Directed by: Simon Runley

Starring:
Roger Lloyd-Pack/Donald
Leo Bill/James
Kate Fahy/Nancy

Plot:
With bankruptcy looming, desperate Donald Brocklebank must leave his bedridden wife alone with their son James a schizophrenic man child. In a horrific fit of dementia James abandons his medication, locks the doors, and plays nurse. As his ability to distinguish morbid fantasy from reality decays, he plunges into a mental labyrinth so violent and deranged none of them may survive it.

Acting:
The acting in this film was very good, Leo Bill(James) gave a very strong performance as schizophrenic, a lot better than most actors pull off in mainstream flicks today, Kate Fahy(Nancy) was great and you fell so bad for her and just wanted her to survive and be alright, Roger Lloyd-Pack(Donald) was spot on when in the film but he wasn’t used a lot.

Gore:
The gore was real light in this movie but it was very effective when shown, we get some stabbing, stuff with needles, and some slit wrists.

T & A:
We get one boob shot but trust me it was not pleasant at all.

Directing:
Simon did a excellent job making this very secluded and all throughout the movie you felt dread and no way it could turn out good.

Soundtrack:
The score was the best part of the movie it just rang out with dread and sorrow.

Final thoughts:
The Living And The Dead was a very hard hitting depressing movie for me to watch, it was very well made and felt ultra realistic. The acting was great and the score was very fitting, the only drawback I felt was the fast paced shaky camera stuff when James was freaking out but that’s not even a big deal. Overall this was not my type of movie at all but that being said I still feel it is well made movie and I would say give this one a rent. I give it a 4/10.
