The Wolfman (2010)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by:Joe Johnston

Starring:
Benicio Del Toro/Lawrence
Emily Blunt/Gwen
Anthony Hopkins/John
Hugo Weaving/Abberline

Plot:
Lawrence Talbot, is lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father, Talbot sets out to find his brother... and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. Talbot's childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe, tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Abberline has come to investigate.

Acting:
The acting was real good, Benicio Del Toro(Lawrence) was great in the lead I thought he fit well compared to the original Wolf Man movie back in the day. Hugo Weaving(Abberline) was awesome as the guy going after The Wolf Man, Hugo’s presence in any movie adds a lot though. Hopkins and Blunt were both good too but didn’t stand out as much as Del Toro or Weaving.

Gore:
The gore was well done, a lot more graphic compared to the original but it felt ok, because you could imagine a beast like the Wolf Man doing this. We get some heads rolling, nasty bites and clawed up bodies, and some gunshots.

T & A:
None of that stuff here, even Wolfie kept his cloths on.

Directing:
Joe did a awesome job with the scenery here and the layout of were this flick is located. We get a good general feel of a old time Universal Pictures movie. The only thing I didn’t really care for was the fast zoom by’s with The Wolf Man, but it wasn’t done a lot so it was cool.

Soundtrack:
We get a amazing score like always from Danny Elfman, he gives a great classic feel to this flick.

Final thoughts:
Overall I really dug this movie. I am a huge fan of the old classics and was not a fan of what they did with Van Helsing but this was a good throwback of a classic film. We get good acting, some great set pieces and they didn’t mess up the story from the original. This was a lot better than the new batch of shitty Werewolf movies that are being put out today. I would say this is a must watch. I give it a 7/10.
