(from Wikipedia)Twilight is a young adult vampire novel written by author Stephenie Meyer, originally published in hardcover in 2005. It is the first book of the Twilight series, and introduces seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington, and finds her life in danger when she falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen.
It's young adult fiction, so my expectations weren't high. But when terms like "The next JK Rowling" are thrown around like Cold Ethyl, I had to poke my head in the door of this growing trend of sparkly vampires.
Well....
At first, it started all right, building slowly, with Bella, the central character keeping a good head on her shoulders...Then after Edward, her vampire boyfriend, starts to sparkle, it goes SOOO downhill from there.
The writing skill takes a dip, the characters become shallow and one-sided, and Bella becomes a snivelling entitled bitch. The ending seems rushed, with a bit too much gratification at the end and the spoilers for the second book at the end were so like a bad fan fiction I couldn't even finish it.
A girl who seems to be wise beyond her years suddenly turns into a drooling fangirl when she finds out her love interest is supernatural. And I'm sorry...Sparkly vampires? .... and the old vamps vs werewolves storyline?? Can we end that whole idea please?? It's been done to DEATH, not even Charlaine Harris is writing about that crap anymore!
After reading this book, I had an overwhelming urge to watch "30 Days of Night", so the vampires could go back in the bad-guys camp. Where they belong.
