Undead (2003)
Review by Jeff
Directed by: Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig
Starring:
Felicity Mason/Rene
Mungo McKay/Marion
Dirk Hunter/Harrison
Emma Randall/Molly
Plot:
Rene, a small-time beauty queen, is forced to move out of her hometown Berkeley, a sleepy town in Queensland due to financial problems. However, barely had she started the journey when meteors start raining down from the sky, turning all those hit into zombies. In an attempt to escape, she stumbles upon a small group of survivors, and together they must fight their way out of town. However, one of the survivors firmly believes it is more than just a simple zombie outbreak, but part of a bigger conspiracy.
Acting:
The acting in this film was real good, Felicity Mason(Rene) played the quiet small town girl real well and towards the end of the movie she turns into a badass leader, Mungo McKay(Marion) was also quiet at most times but also added some good humor to the movie, Dirk Hunter(Harrison) was real funny as the asshole cop, and also a real chicken shit that acts tuff.
Gore:
The gore was great we get heads ripped off, body’s cut in half, gunshots, a brain ripped out, knives to the head, zombies ran over, a head blown up, a shovel to the head, and a pretty cool plane scene.
T & A:
The ladies get one butt shot, and us guys don’t get a thing.
Directing:
The Spierig brothers did a awesome job with this film visually, the blue tint to the film was great as it made the movie feel real dark and dreadful, and the gore scenes were top notch.
Soundtrack:
We get a real nice sci-fi type score that made the movie fun at times and also very eerie at other times.
Final thoughts:
Undead was a fresh twist on zombie movies adding a unique sci-fi aspect to the film, the was great acting, the gore was superb, and visually was great. I did notice that it seemed like there was some influences from The Evil Dead and oddly enough Independence Day in the movie. All in all I would say if you’re a horror movie fan, or a like zombie flicks a lot defiantly give this movie a shot. I give it a 9/10.
