The Vanguard (2008)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Mathew Hope

Starring:
Ray Bullock Jr./Max
Shiv Grewal/Jamal
Emma Choy/Rachael
Steve Weston/Zac

Plot:
The year is 2015. The last known oil fields have been lost to global war. Overpopulation and famine have plunged our planet into chaos. But deep in the wilderness, one desperate survivor now finds himself hunted by corporate kill squads, sought by the Resistance, and pursued by hordes of rage crazed zombies. In a world ruled by murder, madness and cannibalistic carnage, will humanity’s last hope be measured in bloodshed?

Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty good, Ray Bullock Jr.(Max0 didn’t say a lot but he was real good in the lead role and was a very unique character, Shiy Grewal(Jamal) was also pretty good but his character was a mix between a good guy and a bad guy, hard to pick if you want to like him or hate him. The rest of the cast was good too but didn’t have a lot of time in the flick.

Gore:
The gore was pretty solid, we get lots of sweet blood spraying everywhere, we get some cool spear action, lots of use with a hatchet, some knife stuff, a arm and leg cut off, and some gunshots.

T & A:
None of that stuff here.

Directing:
Mathew gave us lots of fast camera movements and made the movies color real dull and off set like a lot of movies today witch I am not a big fan of.

Soundtrack:
The score was very well done and pretty epic sounding at times like a Conan movie with the large sounding drums.

Final thoughts:
The Vanguard had a lot of good stuff to it but also a lot of bad stuff I didn’t really care for. On the good side the gore was great, the acting was solid and it had a real cool score, on the bad side the look of the flick was horrible, and the whole infected zombie thing is way overdone to me, plus the zombies looked bad, and ran around like they monkeys. I would say if you like movie like 28 days Later or the newer zombie movies give this one a rent. I give it a 5/10.
