Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)

Review by David Rupp

The population of Detroit has almost completely disappeared, but a few remain. As daylight disappears they realize that the Dark is coming for them.
Directed by Brad Anderson
Written by Anthony Jaswinski
Staring: Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo
This was another pleasant surprise, based on a historic story of the colony at Roanoke. What would you do if the power went out and everyone disappeared? Vanishing on 7th Street explores just that and more.
There is some very good acting here and inthe beginning the effect of the cause is so subtle you have to be completely aware, aside from the obvious piles of clothes laying around inthe last activities of the missing. The 5 survivors all have one thing in common, when the shit hit the fan they were in the presence of a personal light scource. And on that you really become invested in the characters, they are believable and their stories can make you relate.
There is very little gore and carnage in the movie which I feel carries the story in a more credible way (exception is the surgery scene). Creepy, dark and mysterious Vanishing unfolds like a razor edged geisha fan and holds your attention to the bitter-sweet end.
I do reccomend that you check this out, and if you find yourself being haunted by shadows just remember 'croatoan'.
