Videodrome (1983)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: David Cronenberg

Starring:
James Woods/Max
Deborah Harry/Nicki
Peter Dvorsky/Harlan
Sonja Smits/Bianca O’Blivion

Plot:
Sleazy lowlife cable TV operator Max Renn discovers a snuff broadcast called Videodrome. But it is more than a TV show it's an experiment that uses regular TV transmissions to permanently alter the viewer's perceptions by giving them brain damage. Max is caught in the middle of the forces that created Videodrome and the forces that want to control it, his body itself turning into the ultimate weapon to fight this global conspiracy.

Acting:
The acting in this film is pretty solid, James Woods(Max) was awesome and gave a strong performance in the lead role, Deborah Harry(Nicki) was ok but didn’t really add a lot to her role other than being a sex fiend, and Peter Dvorsky(Harlan) was great as Woods sidekick.

Gore:
The gore doesn’t really start up till around a hour into the film but what we do get is great stuff, we get some strangling, gun shots, flesh ripped off, and a guy blown up.

T & A:
We get 2 pairs here and the ladies get a dudes butt shot.

Directing:
Cronenberg did a great job making this film very confusing, just when you think you know is going to happen your wrong. The lighting was great and made the movie very dreamlike.

Soundtrack:
The score is there but it is way overshadowed by the plot and trying figure out what is going to happen next.

Final thoughts:
Videodrome had my mind going the whole time wondering where its going to take me next, the first half of the film is pretty strait forward but then it turns into a mind fuck movie and ends with me having questions to be answered. We get some great visual effects that were very cutting edge for it’s time and I wouldn’t be shocked if this film gets remade sometime soon. If your up for a very odd confusing movie this should be rite up your ally. I give it a 6/10.
