The Wolf Man (1941)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: George Waggner
Starring:
Lon Chaney/The Wolf Man
Evelyn Ankers/Gwen
Claude Rains/Sir John
Maria Ouspenskaya/Maleva
Plot:
Larry returns home to his father after his brothers death, while staying with his father and trying to make amends with him he meets an array of new people and he seems to like it. But things take a turn for the worst when he is bitten by a werewolf and becomes one himself.
Acting:
The acting in this film is great, everyone gives it there all, Lon Chaney(The Wolf Man) is awesome and gives some good body language to his role as The Wolf Man, Evelyn Ankers(Gwen) was good in the lead female role, and Claude Rains(Sir John) is awesome.
Gore:
There was no blood or gore in this flick at all, but we do get a wolf attack, and some werewolf attacks. This was more about the suspense and it worked great.
T & A:
None of that here, and none needed.
Directing:
George did a fantastic job with the setting of the film, the stage sets looked awesome and gave it a real creepy atmosphere.
Soundtrack:
We get a nice well done score that set the mood for the film well.
Final thoughts:
The Wolf Man is a great classic Universal Monsters film that is timeless, watching this reminds me how much better the acting was back in the compared to today’s films. This has some great acting, kickass sets, and real good story to it, the whole curse of the werewolf is great and is not really used much anymore in the modern werewolf flicks. If you enjoy older Universal Monster movies then you will enjoy this film. I give it a 8/10.
