Zombie Cop (1991)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by:J.R. Bookwalter

Starring:
Michael Kemper/Zombie Cop
James Black/Dr. Death
Ken Jarosz/Det. Stevens
Bill Morrison/Buddy

Plot:
During a drug raid, a narcotics officer confronts a strange Voodoo priest named Dr. Death, who is chanting. The officer and the priest shoot it out and they both wind up dead. Later, the two rise from their graves and return to the land of the living as zombies. Dr. Death is resurrected with a new mission in mind, to take over the world. The "zombie" cop enlists the aid of his old police buddies to stop the mad priest.

Acting:
The acting wasn’t too bad for the budget it had. Michael Kemper(Zombie Cop) was likeable and played the role of a cop pretty well. We don’t get much of a back story or know anything about him though. James Black(Dr. Death) was cool as the voodoo man. He plays a good scumbag but I wouldn’t picture a voodoo priest having Full Moon posters hanging in his house.

Gore:
The gore was lacking big time and with a low budget zombie flick having some good gore and kills would really have helped out. All we get are some gunshots and a cut arm.

T & A:
None of that jazz here.

Directing:
J.R. didn’t really impress me much, we get standard camera shots, and the settings you could tell where probably his house or a buddy’s. The lighting could have been better and the use of some night scenes would have helped a bit.

Soundtrack:
We get a very annoying score that is looped over and over, it gets old very fast. We also get a little rock music that is drowned out by the looping score.

Final thoughts:
My first thoughts when Zombie Cop ended was wow I am glad that it was only a hour long. I felt it was a good set up for a film but the thing is there is a better movie that was already made called Maniac Cop. The good stuff about the flick was the acting and well that’s about it. I would say you could skip past this one. I give it a 3/10.
